1、 Avoid immersion in water
Although pearls are produced in water, they actually grow inside the clam, wrapped in the flesh and isolated from water. There are tiny pores on the surface of pearls, which can easily absorb moisture and cause the pearl layer to peel off or break.
In addition, threading pearls is prone to mold and breakage. Please do not wear pearls for the following activities: bathing/swimming/soaking in hot springs/sweating during intense exercise.
If accidentally wetted, use a clean dry cloth to wipe dry, air dry in a cool and ventilated place, and then put it in the jewelry box. Do not use a high-temperature hair dryer to blow directly or expose to direct sunlight!
2、 Stay away from oil stains
The micropores of pearls are prone to absorbing kitchen fumes, steam, etc. Over time, it can affect the surface gloss and cause the pearls to turn yellow. When wearing pearls, please stay away from areas with fumes.
3、 Avoid chemical substances
Pearls are extremely sensitive to acid and alkali, and the following substances can corrode the surface, causing it to lose its luster, change color, or even turn black, so contact is prohibited:
– vinegar, alcohol, perfume;
- Skincare and cosmetics;
- Strong cleaning agents such as silver washing water/gold washing water.
Special reminder:
Do not use alcohol swabs to wipe pearls;
Do not use metal cleaning solution.
4、 Stay away from hard objects
The Mohs hardness of pearls is between 2.5-4.5, which is a relatively low hardness organic gemstone. This means that pearls are slightly harder than nails (Mohs hardness of about 2.5) and much lower than the hardness of glass (Mohs hardness of about 5.5), so pearls are easily scratched!
Suggestion:
- Store separately and do not mix with diamonds, gold, or jade;
- Collect in soft cloth bags or jewelry boxes;
- Avoid overlapping with other metal jewelry or colliding with hard objects.
